This is our time to get to know you and your smile! A new patient visit includes digital x-rays, an oral cancer screening and a comprehensive exam. Our dental hygienist will evaluate the health of your gums, discuss and perform the type of cleaning needed and review dental home care techniques. Our dentist will go over any recommended treatment and work with you to formulate a plan to reach your smile goals.
Daily brushing and flossing is necessary to sweep away food particles and bacteria that can collect along your gum line and on your tooth surfaces. Gingivitis is irritation and inflammation of the gum tissue, caused by a build up of plaque and bacteria. If gingivitis is left unchecked, it can progress to periodontitis, which involves the deterioration of the gum tissue and the bone that supports the teeth. Periodontal disease is the #1 cause of tooth loss! If you are diagnosed with periodontal disease, your dental hygienist will recommend a "Scaling & Root Planing" (also known as an SRP or deep cleaning). During the SRP, the dental hygienist will go below the gum level to remove plaque, tartar deposits and bacterial toxins. Removing these irritants will help restore your gum health and stabilize your bone level.
The key to maintaing healthy teeth and gums is to schedule regular visits to see your dentist and dental hygienist as well as follow a thorough dental hygiene routine at home. Let us help you on your journey to great oral health.
